Demonstration of Knowledge #1 - 1st Yellow Stripe

Classes Required: 20
Demonstration Fee: $20

Student will successfully demonstrate their understanding and/or application of the following:
Social
Greeting
  • Eye Contact
  • Say - “Hello, (Insert Name).”
  • Handshake
  • Say - “How are you?”

Goodbye
  • Eye Contact
  • Say - “Goodbye, (Insert Name).”  
  • ​Handshake
  • Say - “It was great seeing you.  Have a wonderful day.”

Class Structure & Etiquette
  • Uniform Belt - Tying by Onself
  • Seated Bow
    • Seiza
    • Still - Focused
  • Rising from Seiza & Sitting to Seiza
  • Set Position - “Yes Sir/Ma’am”
  • Rei - Standing Bow - “I am peace.”

Japanese Terminology
  • Aikido - The way of spiritual harmony
  • Dojo - School; place of enlightenment
  • Tokonoma - A place for displaying items of reverence - Ex: pictures, flowers, etc.
  • Sensei - Teacher - Literally “before born”
  • Seiza - Kneeling position - Literally “proper sitting”
  • Onegaishimasu - “Let’s train respectfully together and learn from each other so that we may benefit one another.”
  • Domo Arigatou Goazimasu - “Thank you very much for teaching me today.”
  • Uke - Person who provides the energy - "Attacker"
  • ​Nage - Person who performs the technique
  • Counting to 5 in Japanese

  • To be "Still-Focused" in the following for 1 Minute:
    • Set Position
    • Seiza 

Self-Defense Challenge
  • Using Voice to Stop Aggressor
  • Shomenuchi Parry using Tenkan
